About Us

Who are the Maritime Natural Infrastructure Collaborative?

The Maritime Natural Infrastructure Collaborative was established in 2017 and is made up of various organizations, academics, and planners from across New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. The Collaborative is working to better understand how we can maximize the free services provided by our natural areas that keep us healthy. Currently, we are engaged in developing tools and providing education to support the integration of natural solutions into land-use and climate change adaptation planning.

What are nature’s services?

Nature isn’t just a place to visit. We rely on forests, wetlands, and rivers for food, clean water, and protection from floods. For example, our forests help slow down rain water and reduce flooding downstream while wetlands help ensure our water is clean for drinking. These services are becoming more important as a changing climate continues to bring more frequent, severe storms, flooding, and temperature changes.
